The Orangery Restaurant |
Once the preserve of the wealthy and the aristocracy in their country houses, The Orangery has had a 21st century makeover. With its soaring 12 foot windows and polished marble floor, The Orangery at Smiths Court was designed by Andrew Sherrington to complete and complement the 'elegant Victorian' it adjoins. Unlike those of previous centuries, however, ours has underfloor heating, disabled access, ample car parking – and views accross the Thames Estuary, with "the most beautiful skies in all Europe" according to J.M.W.Turner!
Put all this aside, however, because the most important thing about a restaurant is the food that is cooked, and the way it is served – and in both these, we excel! |
Seasonal Menus As originators of the Cliftonville Farmers Market – which meets on the lawns opposite on the last Sunday of every month – we have a long standing commitment to fresh, local food. We're surrounded by sea and farmland, and our three talented chefs, Daniel Johnson, Ben Dunk and Robin Gowton, know how to make the very most of seasonality.
Our menus then, are entirely rewritten for each season – with minor tweaks in between to take account of good or poor growing conditions at our major vegetable suppliers, Nash Farm. Most of our meat is from Kent, and our fish from local boats, responsibly fished- and much of it now is sustainably farmed. Our bread is baked by Giovanni, and our eggs laid by chickens too numerous to name, living at Woodlands Farm! Jams and preserves come from Fruit farms around Faversham, and are made for us, and almost everything else we make ourselves which is why we are now an approved member of Produced in Kent!
